Description
Alien 27 Here be Dragons! Well… 1cm long dragons, anyway. This is a larval-stage Armored Sea Robin (aka Gurnard), one of the “holy grails” of fish larvae sightings while hunting for the Aliens, and this specimen had the best finnage of any I’ve come across. Others I’ve found have had fin streamers only a fraction of this size, and much more muted colors, so this one was a prize.
After settling as an adult, it will cease swimming, and spend the rest of its life crawling across the seafloor on finger-like pectorals.
Shot off West Palm Beach, FL. Exact species is unknown, but it is classified within the Family, Peristediidae.
It’s spherical nature goes well paired with other round Aliens, so consider how it looks beside Alien #17 which is a salp containing a nest of phronimas, and Alien #10 which is an unclassified jellyfish.
For printing, we offer the Aliens as squares on either aluminum or canvas, but they are customizable into other shapes if your design plan requires it. You can purchase this luxury wall art online in standard sizes, but if you’d like to discuss a custom crop or size, please contact one of our design consultants at the art gallery. Perhaps our most popular arrangement for Aliens is a grouping of three of our 15″ x 15″ aluminums, but I encourage you to discuss the size & shape of your project’s wall with one of our design consultants, who will help you develop an amazing contemporary art installation that blurs the lines between natural beauty and scientific fascination. Alien 27 is available up to a maximum size of 30″.
