Alien #18 a larval Wonderpus body/head size ~ 1cm

The wonderful Wonderpus!  No, I didn’t make that name up!  It’s scientific name is Wonderpus photogenicus – no joke!  I promise – I didn’t make that one up either! It’s an extremely rare species of octo who usually lives in sandy/muddy environments in the South Pacific – it is only planktonic during this larval stage.  It’s related to the similar mimic octopus, and the adults of both species are known for their ability to copy the shape, color, and swimming behavior of other marine life such as flounder, eels, or sea snakes.  This larval specimen clearly belongs in the Aliens Collection – all I can see is a creature piloting a craft to Earth to abduct a few humans for probing experiments!  I love how the chromatophores look like confetti bouncing inside a balloon.  Does anyone else get vibes of the aliens Kang & Kodos from The Simpsons?

If you’re an octopus lover, be sure to also check out Alien #12, a long-arm octopus, and Alien #28, A blanket octopus.

For printing, we offer the Aliens as squares on either aluminum or canvas, but they are customizable into other shapes if your design plan requires it. You can purchase this luxury wall art online in standard sizes, but if you’d like to discuss a custom crop or size, please contact one of our design consultants at the art gallery.  Perhaps our most popular arrangement for Aliens is a grouping of three of our 15″ x 15″ aluminums, but I encourage you to discuss the size & shape of your project’s wall with one of our design consultants, who will help you develop an amazing contemporary art installation that blurs the lines between natural beauty and scientific fascination.  Alien 18 is available up to a maximum size of 96″.
