Story: Perhaps my favorite part of shooting for the Aliens Collection, is when I find something I can’t ID. I then take the images to some of the top marine biologists, invertebrate zoologists, larval ichthyologists, and citizen scientists around the world. And then when none of them can ID it…. that’s when I really start to do my happy dance! At the moment, my best guess is that this is a Pegantha sp., but that remains unconfirmed by the best minds of jellyfish science. Hopefully, as I print this image in the collection, that will change, and I will update it on the website. But for now, I’ve won this round of my favorite game: “Stump the Scientist”! Created in Hawaii, over about 8000′ of water.
